Welcome to TEAM a.r.g.

TEAM a.r.g. (Arduboy Retro Gaming) is about creating 1 bit pixel games for the Arduboy game system. But you can play all games in your browser too. The team was started by Joeri Gantois (JO3RI) in 2013.

Why the Arduboy? Because it is an Arduino based system, well actually it is an Arduino Leonardo with 6 buttons, a piezo speaker and a OLED display. The most fun part, are the restraints.

Our Mission:

Can we build games for a ATmega32u4 microcontroller running at 16 Mhz and only has 2,5 SRAM (in game memory), 32KB FLASH (max size of the game) and 1KB EEPROM (Save memory), 1 color pixels at a resolution of 128x64 and tracker music on a piezo?

Our Games are Free:

All our games are free and always will be free to play and so is the code of the games. So you can learn from it. The pixel-art sometimes has a different License. If you like our games, you can sponsor us with a "coffee" it helps us pay other people's software we use.

ARDUBOY

Arduboy is a handheld video game console that is approximately the size of a credit card. It is designed based on Arduino hardware and features open-source software, allowing users to play and create 8-bit games.

Arduboy encourages a DIY approach, making it suitable for education and programming. Users can learn to code and create their own games, supported by a community that shares tutorials and resources. This open-source aspect makes it a popular choice for hobbyists and educators alike.

RETRO

The term retro has been in use since 1972 to describe on the one hand, new artifacts that self-consciously refer to particular modes, motifs, techniques, and materials of the past. But on the other hand, many people use the term to categorize styles that have been created in the past.

Retro gaming refers to the playing and enjoyment of video games from earlier generations, typically from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. This practice often involves classic consoles and games that evoke nostalgia and preserve the history of gaming.

GAMES

A game is an activity defined by a challenge and a set of rules, typically done for enjoyment, competition, or development. Games may be played informally or in professional competitive settings before audiences. Popular formats include board games, card games, video games, and sports, distinguished from unstructured play by having rules. Scholars have long debated the essence of games, with no single definition achieving universal acceptance.

Throughout history, games have served as tools for entertainment, teaching, ritual, and socialization.
